Why Use An External Peer Review Company

Fair, Objective, And Timely Reviews

Please call (888) 899-1406 to schedule a free consultation to talk about how we can conduct physician peer reviews for your organization. We will also be happy to show you a redacted sample of one of our reports.

At MRN, we’ve facilitated hundreds of external physician peer reviews for hospitals and healthcare organizations of all sizes. Using an external physician peer review company can offer distinct advantages over conducting peer reviews internally.

Fair And Objective Physician Reviewers
For starters, as a peer review company, we conduct reviews from a fair and objective perspective, with no ties or affiliations to anyone in the organization and no preconceived ideas.

The Right Expert For Each Physician Peer Review Case
Because of our vast experience in peer reviews and our large database of physician reviewers, we can find the right board-certified expert, in active clinical practice, who is qualified to understand a physician’s specialty. For example, we once secured a neurosurgeon with gamma knife surgical experience to review medical records and imaging for a hospital that was in the process of suspending one of its neurosurgeon’s privileges.

Physician Reviewers With Experience In A Similar Setting
In choosing the best peer reviewer, we choose a physician who not only has the right specialty, but who also works in (or has worked in) a similar practice setting. For example, we’d choose a different peer reviewer to evaluate a physician in a Los Angeles hospital than we would for a physician in a community hospital in rural Oregon

Customized Forms For OPPE Reviews
We can design a customized form for your Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPEs) that meets the needs of your organization, provides uniformity, and measures compliance with your standards and guidelines.

Objectivity For FPPE Reviews
When Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPEs) are required – because of concerns about deviations in standard of care, adverse events, poor outcomes, or other issues – it’s virtually impossible for people inside an organization to review one another and be completely objective. If a physician’s privileges are at risk of being suspended or revoked, few organizations want someone inside their own system to conduct the FPPE. As an external peer review company, we can provide objective, non-biased reviews.

Cost-Effective, On-Time Peer Reviews
Because our legal nurse consultants work closely with the physician reviewers we secure – and ultimately write the reports – we can provide a timely, cost-effective solution for peer reviews. Reviews don’t get stalled out on physicians’ desks, and the reports and summaries are comprehensive, yet easy-to-understand. Understanding what can be at stake, we’re also able to turn around peer reviews on extremely tight timelines when necessary.
