Denise Smith is Head of Consulting Services for Medical Resource Network (MRN), a division of SAYAS Alliance. With over 40 years of diverse healthcare expertise, Denise oversees business development initiatives, and provides consulting services and support. In her role, Denise collaborates closely with MRN’s legal nurse consultants to deliver tailored consulting services that address client needs with precision and insight.
As a licensed Registered Nurse and certified Legal Nurse Consultant, Denise brings extensive experience in infection prevention, sterile processing, quality and resource management, and clinical education across acute inpatient and outpatient care settings. Her clinical and regulatory expertise spans EMTALA compliance, medical-surgical practice standards, and healthcare administration. Denise’s deep understanding of healthcare regulations has been instrumental in developing tools and resources that enable organizations to achieve and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
A dedicated educator, Denise has served as adjunct faculty at Saint Elizabeth University, teaching strategic planning, healthcare management, and environmental issues. She has successfully led quality improvement initiatives, focusing on regulatory readiness, corrective action planning, policy development, and medical staff credentialing. In her Quality Improvement roles, Denise has assisted healthcare organizations with regulatory readiness, plans of correction, infection control, policy development, competency development, and medical staff credentialing. Throughout her career, Denise has held executive roles, including vice president of patient services, and managed diverse patient care areas, such as surgery, endoscopy, cardiac catheter labs, orthopedics, medical-surgical, and hemodialysis.
Denise earned a Master of Science in health administration, and Bachelor of Science in health education, from Jersey City State College. Denise is a graduate of Christ Hospital School of Nursing. She is a CMS Healthcare Accreditation Professional (CIHQ), trained DNV Internal Auditor, and an active member of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants, the National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants, and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).
